East Java Police DVI Team Receives 76 Ante-Mortem Records for KM Virgo Victims

Surabaya (ANTARA) - The Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team of the East Java Regional Police (Polda Jatim) has received 76 ante-mortem data entries for the victims of the KM Virgo Transport 8 maritime accident as of Friday (18/9).

“The ante-mortem data received at our post has reached 76 entries. Additionally, medical teams have collected 42 DNA samples using the buccal swab method from the victims’ immediate families to strengthen the matching process,” stated the Head of Bhayangkara Surabaya Hospital, Kombes Pol dr Bayu Dharma Shanti, in Surabaya on Saturday.

He noted that the ante-mortem data collected by the DVI team originated from families and relatives of the victims who reported to the DVI Post in the Tanjung Perak area, Surabaya.

In addition to the 76 ante-mortem records, medical teams have also taken 42 Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) samples via buccal swabs from the victims’ immediate family members.

This process is being conducted strictly in accordance with international DVI standard operating procedures (SOP) to ensure precision and accuracy in identification.

“We are conducting this identification process in stages, prioritising absolute precision and high accuracy. We are also ensuring that the best assistance and services for the victims’ families remain optimal throughout the entire DVI process,” he said.

The Tanjung Perak DVI Post remains on standby to receive physical data, medical records, biological samples, and other secondary information from families of victims who have not yet reported.

The East Java Police DVI team also continues to coordinate with relevant stakeholders regarding the post-accident handling of KM Virgo Transport 8.
