East Java Police Deploy 30 Personnel to Evacuate KMP Mutiara Sentosa 2
Surabaya (ANTARA) - The East Java Regional Police (Polda Jatim) have deployed 30 SAR personnel from the Marine and Air Police Directorate (Ditpolairud), along with specialised equipment, to evacuate victims of the passenger motor vessel KMP Mutiara Sentosa 2 in the waters off Sumenep, Madura.
“This tactical step was taken to ensure that all passengers and crew can be rescued quickly and safely from the scene,” said the Head of the Public Relations Division of the East Java Regional Police, Chief Commissioner Jules Abraham Abast, in Surabaya on Monday.
He said the Ditpolairud SAR personnel were dispatched as soon as Polda Jatim received the emergency report about the maritime accident.
The equipment placed on standby includes motorised rubber boats to reach narrow evacuation points, body bags and emergency medical supplies, underwater lighting and sonar detection devices, as well as complete diving gear for search personnel.
The police are also coordinating with the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL), and port authorities to support the smooth running of the humanitarian operation.
“Our current focus is on evacuating the victims. We urge the victims’ families to remain calm and monitor developments through the official information posts provided at the nearest port,” said Abast.
