East Java Police confirm Surabaya remains secure following Molotov incident

Surabaya (ANTARA) - The East Java Regional Police have confirmed that the security situation in Surabaya remains safe and under control after police detained a man suspected of involvement in throwing objects believed to be Molotov cocktails at two traffic police posts.
“The situation in Surabaya remains safe, conducive, and under control. The police service posts that were the location of the incident also remain operational,” said East Java Police Head of Public Relations, Senior Commissioner Jules Abraham Abast, in Surabaya on Sunday.
He said services to the public continue to operate as usual. East Java Police also urged the public to remain calm and carry on with their normal activities.
The public was asked not to be easily influenced by information, speculation, or narratives whose veracity has not been confirmed regarding the incident.
“We also hope the public will not disseminate unverified information,” he said.
The investigation is being conducted by examining a number of witnesses, analysing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, and examining various leads and evidence found at the scene.
Investigators are also still looking into the sequence of events, the evidence, and the possibility of involvement by other parties in the incident.
Jules confirmed that one police officer sustained injuries in the incident and has received medical treatment.
Members of the public who have information related to the incident or activities that could potentially disrupt security and public order are urged to report it to the police immediately.
Reports can be submitted through the nearest police station or the 110 police service, which is accessible free of charge 24 hours a day.
“East Java Police and its ranks will continue to take the necessary policing measures to maintain a safe and conducive security and public order situation,” he said.
