East Java Police Chief Attends Large-Scale Maize Harvest in Banyuwangi
Banyuwangi — The East Java Regional Police Chief, Irjen Pol Nanang Avianto, attended the third-quarter large-scale maize harvest on a 20-hectare plot at the Green Farm area, located within the Integrated Agricultural Training Centre in Karangsari Village, Sempu District, Banyuwangi, East Java, on Friday.
During the harvest event, Police Chief Nanang was accompanied by the Regent of Banyuwangi, Ipuk Fiestiandani, and the Chairman of the East Java Regional Representative Council of the Indonesian Farmers Association (HKTI), Arum Sabil.
On this occasion, Irjen Pol Nanang Avianto expressed his appreciation for the Banyuwangi Regency Government’s consistency in maintaining food surpluses and providing support to the agricultural sector.
“Today marks my second time harvesting maize in Banyuwangi; alhamdulillah, the Regent of Banyuwangi is very supportive,” he said.
Nanang noted that the Green Farm area possesses potential far beyond mere farmland, as the area also serves as a space for research and the development of various superior crop varieties.
“Starting from here, we can recognise that Banyuwangi possesses specific environments—coastal areas, valleys, and mountains—suitable for various types of premium crops,” he remarked.
The East Java Police Chief expressed hope that the results of the precision agricultural research and management conducted at Green Farm could be expanded and implemented more widely across various regions in Indonesia.
“It is up to us to demonstrate even better excellence, because from what is good, there will surely be something better, eventually leading to the best. This is what we must realise here,” he stated.
Police Chief Nanang added that strengthening the agricultural sector is a vital component in addressing the continuously increasing national food requirements, in line with the directives of President Prabowo Subianto to bolster national food security.
The Regent of Banyuwangi, Ipuk Fiestiandani, stated that the local government continues to encourage productivity in the agricultural sector while ensuring regional food availability.
According to her, Banyuwangi has consistently recorded a surplus in maize production. In 2025, Banyuwangi’s maize production reached 250,596 tonnes, an increase of approximately 19 per cent compared to the previous year.
With the regional maize requirement at around 69,842 tonnes, Banyuwangi maintains a substantial surplus. In 2024, the maize production surplus in Banyuwangi was recorded at 180,754 tonnes.
“Alhamdulillah, Banyuwangi is always in surplus. Thank you to the Police Chief, the police force, the farmers, and all stakeholders. May this collective effort bring blessings to us all,” said Ipuk.
