East Java Police Assist in Pursuing 14 Fugitives in Sampang Teen Rape Case
The East Java Regional Police (Polda Jatim) are providing assistance in the case of a 15-year-old girl in Sampang who was raped by 27 men. The Director of the Women and Children Protection (PPA) and Human Trafficking Eradication (PPO) Directorate of the East Java Police, Senior Commissioner Ganis Setyaningrum, confirmed that her team will continue to pursue the perpetrators. “For this case, the PPA & PPO Directorate of the East Java Police is assisting and backing up the handling carried out by the Sampang Resort Police,” said Senior Commissioner Ganis on Wednesday (15/7/2026). Ganis asserted that her party is committed to thoroughly uncovering the case. She will also direct her ranks to pursue the dozen or so perpetrators who have not yet been arrested. “We are committed to continuing our efforts to uncover this case until it is resolved and to process the criminal acts that occurred in accordance with applicable legal provisions. For the suspected perpetrators, both those who have been arrested and those still being sought, efforts to locate them will continue, and we will cooperate with the resort police within the East Java Regional Police’s jurisdiction,” she stated. Furthermore, she said her party will focus on protecting and recovering the victim from trauma. She will involve various parties for the recovery of the victim’s condition. “Currently, we are also focusing on efforts to protect and recover from the trauma experienced by the victim. In handling this, we are also coordinating and cooperating with various parties, including the East Java Police Bhayangkara Hospital, the Provincial DP3AK, the Sampang Regency UPT, the Sampang Regency and Provincial Social Services, the Correctional Centre, legal aid institutions, psychologists, the Witness and Victim Protection Agency, and the Education Office,” she explained. It is known that the rape of the victim was committed by 27 people. A total of 13 perpetrators have been arrested, while 14 others remain fugitives. “The remaining 14 have been placed on the wanted list. Please pray that we can soon secure all the perpetrators, so as to provide a deterrent effect,” said Sampang Police Chief AKBP Hartono, as reported by detikJatim on Tuesday (14/7). Hartono said a suspect with the initial W (17) was arrested again on Sunday night (12/7). The arrest was made in the Trunojoyo town square area, Sampang.
