East Java PCNU Syuriyah Rois Forum Proposes 35th PBNU Congress to be Held in Lirboyo
The Forum Rois Syuriyah of the East Java Branch of Nahdlatul Ulama (PCNU) has proposed and recommended to the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) that the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama Congress be held at Lirboyo Islamic Boarding School in Kediri City. “The Forum proposes that the 35th NU Congress be held at Lirboyo Islamic Boarding School, which has a long history in scholarly service, ulama cadre development, and dedication to NU,” said the spokesperson for Lirboyo Islamic Boarding School in Kediri, KH Abdul Muid Shohib, in his statement in Kediri, quoted on Saturday, 9 May 2026. He stated that the Forum Rois Syuriyah PCNU for East Java held an event at the An-Nawawy Hall, Lirboyo Islamic Boarding School, on Thursday (7/5). The event produced several important recommendations to PBNU ahead of the National Deliberation (Munas), Grand Conference (Konbes), and 35th Nahdlatul Ulama Congress. In addition to the location for the 35th NU Congress, the forum also requested that PBNU immediately hold the National Deliberation (Munas), Grand Conference (Konbes), and 35th Nahdlatul Ulama Congress in a proper, clean, transparent manner, upholding ethics and propriety. This is to be done as an organisation of ulama, fully guided by the AD/ART and all regulations of the Nahdlatul Ulama association. Furthermore, the forum requested that PBNU immediately hold a plenary meeting before the Munas and Konbes. “The Forum also requests that in making important and strategic decisions and policies leading to the Congress, PBNU involves senior figures from the PBNU Advisory Council as a form of respect for the wisdom of senior ulama and to maintain wisdom in every decision-making process,” he said. Gus Muid, his familiar nickname, added that the forum also emphasised that NU is a great pesantren and a pesantren is a small NU. Therefore, the forum requests that the 35th Congress be held within the pesantren environment to reaffirm the spirit, traditions, and basic values of the jamiyyah’s struggle. Gus Muid added that the forum also hopes that these recommendations will receive joint attention to maintain the organisation’s dignity, strengthen the jamiyyah’s unity, and ensure that all processes leading to the 35th Congress proceed with full wisdom, deliberation, and organisational responsibility. The event was attended by senior kyai, pesantren caretakers, and NU officials from various regions.
