East Java-North Sumatra Trade Mission Records Rp2.843 Trillion in Transactions
Surabaya (ANTARA) - The Trade and Investment Mission between East Java and North Sumatra has recorded trade transactions amounting to Rp2.843 trillion, aimed at expanding market access and strengthening inter-regional economic cooperation.
“The principle is that let us build this togetherness; we must grow together, progress together, develop together, and prosper together,” said the Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, who led the trade mission, in a statement received in Surabaya on Wednesday.
The total transactions reached Rp2,843,228,682,250, consisting of East Java product sales to North Sumatra worth Rp2.721 trillion and the purchase of North Sumatran products by East Java businesses valued at Rp121.592 billion.
Khofifah stated that this eighth trade mission organised by the East Java Provincial Government throughout 2024 does not only pursue transaction value but also aims to build sustainable and mutually beneficial trade relationships.
“What are we striving for with this trade and investment mission? Certainly, our hope is that all business actors, including MSMEs, will have new hope that they will possess new markets,” she said.
East Java products traded include processed poultry, milk, eggs, fishery products, fertiliser, rice, coffee, and fish feed.
Meanwhile, commodities from North Sumatra purchased include carrots, oranges, pasteurised crab, coffee, coconut shell charcoal, and cocofeat.
Khofifah also highlighted opportunities for cooperation in coffee and charcoal commodities to meet both domestic and export market demands. She noted that strengthening communal branding could assist businesses in meeting large-scale market demands.
The Governor of North Sumatra, M. Bobby Afif Nasution, appreciated the implementation of the trade mission, describing it as an opportunity for regional businesses to expand their markets.
“Thank you, Madam Governor, for caring for us. Last year, you were present during the disaster in North Sumatra and provided assistance. This time, you have not brought aid, but you have brought traders. God willing, today’s transactions are truly extraordinary,” said Bobby.
