East Java Man Steals Rp 120 Million in Gold to Fund 'Sporty' Lifestyle

A young man from Sukorame, Lamongan, with the initials BR (20), stole gold worth Rp 120 million from a resident in Lengkong, Nganjuk. The theft was reportedly committed because the suspect lacked the funds to support a ‘sporty’ appearance.

The theft was discovered on Saturday (4/7) at around 6.24 am WIB. After receiving the report, the Lengkong Police Criminal Investigation Unit, backed by the Nganjuk Police Resmob Team, conducted a series of investigations. The investigation involved examining witnesses and gathering evidence. Subsequently, the joint team successfully apprehended the suspect.

‘We have secured a suspected perpetrator with the initials BR (20), a resident of Sukorame District, Lamongan Regency,’ said Nganjuk Police Criminal Investigation Head, AKP Sukaca, on Monday (27/7/2026).

The incident began when the victim discovered that jewellery stored in a dressing table drawer was missing. She received the news from her family. Upon checking, various gold jewellery, precious metals, and a motorcycle registration document (BPKB) were gone, with total losses estimated at Rp 120,170,000.

The investigation revealed that BR was the perpetrator. A portion of the proceeds from his actions had been spent on sports equipment. ‘From the preliminary examination, some of the jewellery was sold for around Rp 14.2 million. The money from the sale was used to buy sports equipment and a mobile phone. The victim’s motorcycle BPKB was also pawned. We are still tracing the whereabouts of other evidence,’ explained Sukaca.
