East Java Imports Rise 14.36 Percent in January-May 2026

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of East Java recorded that the province’s imports reached 13.70 billion US dollars from January to May 2026, a 14.36 percent increase compared to the same period the previous year. Acting Head of BPS East Java Herum Fajarwati stated in Surabaya on Wednesday that the increase was driven by a rise in non-oil and gas imports, which reached 11.10 billion US dollars, growing 11.74 percent compared to January-May 2025. “This increase in import value is in line with the strengthening performance of the non-oil and gas import sector, which reached 11.10 billion US dollars,” she said. In addition to non-oil and gas, oil and gas imports also increased by 27.02 percent, from 2.05 billion US dollars to 2.60 billion US dollars. In the non-oil and gas group, the largest increase occurred in the fruit commodity (HS 08), which rose by 159.45 million US dollars or 34.87 percent. The majority of these commodity imports originated from China, with a value reaching 556.52 million US dollars. Meanwhile, machinery and mechanical equipment (HS 84) remained the largest contributor to non-oil and gas imports, with a value of 1.18 billion US dollars, up 16.14 percent compared to 1.01 billion US dollars in the same period last year. During January-May 2026, the ten largest non-oil and gas goods groups based on two-digit HS codes contributed 59.52 percent to East Java’s total non-oil and gas imports. In terms of growth, imports of these ten goods groups increased by 14.66 percent compared to the same period in 2025.
