East Java has eight wage zones

JAKARTA (JP): The government recently announced its policy on minimum wage levels which will divide East Java into several zones as of April.

The manpower ministerial decree on the raise of minimum daily wages for East Java divides the fast developing province into eight groups in relation to their industrial levels.

Workers' minimum daily wage standards in Surabaya, Malang, Sidoardjo and Gresik will rise from Rp 3,000 (US$1.3) to 3,700.

For Pasuruan the increase will be from 2,950 to Rp 3,700, Mojokerto from Rp 2,850 to Rp 3,700, Jember from Rp 3,000 to Rp 3,450, Jombang from 2,850 to Rp 3,450.

Workers in Kediri, Probolinggo and Banyuwangi will have their daily wages raised from Rp 2,950 to Rp 3,450. While the minimum wage of their peers in Lumajang, Lamongan and Blitar will increase from Rp 2,800 to Rp 3,250.

The minimum wages of workers in least industrialized areas of Ngawi, Magetan, Madiun, Nganjuk, Pacitan, Trenggalek, Ponorogo, Tulungagung, Tuban, Bojonegoro, Situbondo, Bondowoso, Sumenep, Sampang, Bangkalan and Pamekasan will have their daily pay raised from Rp 2,800 to Rp 3,250. (pan)
