East Java Governor Urges Children Not to Hesitate Reporting Violence

East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa has urged all students not to hesitate in reporting any form of violence they experience to their parents or teachers so that it can be addressed promptly. In a statement received in Malang, East Java, on Tuesday, she noted that violence against children can arise in various forms, whether verbal, physical, sexual, or occurring in the digital space. ‘To all children, if you know of or feel any violence, do not hesitate to tell your teacher, your parents, or the authorities. God willing, with the involvement of adults, such things can be curbed,’ Khofifah said. Swift handling of violence is a vital effort because it ensures children’s future growth and development. Children must also be guaranteed security and comfort in carrying out social activities in their environment. She reminded the entire community to work together to ensure a safe environment for all children. Khofifah stated that the government has implemented efforts to ensure children are free from violence by initiating the National Movement for Safe and Comfortable Spaces for Children (RANA). The RANA movement was declared on the first day of the Friendly School Environment Introduction Period for the 2026/2027 academic year, on Monday (14/7). The two-term East Java Governor is optimistic that the RANA movement will further strengthen the child protection ecosystem, especially in educational environments, which are not only places for learning but also spaces to optimally develop individual potential. ‘These children are the ones who carry the future of the world. They will hold the baton of leadership in various fields, and a safe space for children is our shared responsibility, from the government, teachers, parents, to the community,’ she said.
