East Java Governor Khofifah Leads Trade Mission to West Kalimantan, Secures Rp2.53 Trillion in Transactions
East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa directly led the Trade and Investment Mission between East Java and West Kalimantan provinces, held at the Novotel Convention Center Pontianak on Tuesday (11/8), which concluded successfully.
The East Java–West Kalimantan Trade and Investment Mission recorded spectacular transactions totalling Rp2,529,710,925,000, comprising East Java sales of Rp1,480,881,842,000, East Java purchases of Rp163,829,083,000, and East Java investment of Rp885,000,000,000.
East Java’s sales transactions covered a wide range of leading commodities across sectors. These included raw and processed salt, processed beef and chicken, green bean coffee, chicken eggs, cow’s milk, cigarettes, horticultural and maize seeds, fish feed and shrimp feed, rice, granulated sugar, salted eggs, grilled eggs and duck eggs, patin fish, day-old chicks, fruit busters, goats/sheep, slaughter goats, canned fish such as sardines and tuna, fashion products, timber blocks, amino acid fertiliser, shallots, and dried red chillies.
Beyond selling leading products, the trade mission also strengthened two-way trade between East Java and West Kalimantan. East Java businesses made purchase transactions for a number of commodities from West Kalimantan, including round logs, coconut shell charcoal, palm sugar, shisha briquettes, forest honey and trigona honey, as well as bagus fish and toman fish.
In addition to trade, the activity generated East Java investment commitments in West Kalimantan, including the expansion of an ameliorant fertiliser industry in Mempawah Regency, expansion of oil palm plantations in Landak Regency, and expansion of a primary macro-nutrient artificial fertiliser industry in Mempawah Regency.
“Alhamdulillah, the trade and investment mission between East Java and West Kalimantan provinces was successfully held, with total recorded transactions reaching Rp2.5 trillion, of which Rp885 billion was for investment achievements,” said Governor Khofifah.
The 2026 East Java–West Kalimantan Trade Mission recorded a number of large-value transaction commitments involving businesses from both provinces. These commitments covered various strategic sectors, ranging from livestock, plantations, fertiliser industry, coffee, fisheries, to charcoal and briquette commodities.
The largest transaction commitment was recorded between PT Phalosari Unggul Jaya, representing East Java livestock businesses, and CV Sujaya Food, representing West Kalimantan livestock businesses.
Besides inter-business trade, the East Java–West Kalimantan Trade Mission also produced investment commitments from East Java companies in West Kalimantan.
In the trade sector, the Surabaya Cigarette Companies Association (Gapero) recorded cigarette sales transactions to PT Bentoel Prima in Pontianak City. Furthermore, Tutur Coffee from Pasuruan Regency sold green bean coffee to HIPKA Pontianak City. Meanwhile, PT Suri Tani Pemuka of Surabaya City recorded sales of fish feed and shrimp feed.
Trade flows in this mission were also two-way. CV Satrya Abdi Buana Surabaya purchased coconut shell charcoal and shisha briquettes from PT Korindo Complit Cardon of Mempawah Regency. The same company also purchased coconut shell charcoal from CV Insan Borneo Khatulistiwa of Pontianak City. Meanwhile, CV Djadi Jaya of Malang City recorded slaughter goat sales transactions to PT Ratu Mitra Abadi of Mempawah Regency.
This trade mission was the sixth conducted by East Java with other provinces throughout 2026, involving 162 businesses—62 from East Java and 100 from West Kalimantan.
The Trade and Investment Mission was held to enhance connectivity networks between the two regions while exploring potential for further cooperation between East Java and West Kalimantan.
Based on 2024 Interregional Trade data between East Java and all provinces, the total trade value between East Java and West Kalimantan was Rp4.31 trillion, consisting of unloading value (purchases from West Kalimantan) of Rp562.27 billion and loading value (sales to West Kalimantan) of Rp3.75 trillion.
“This means East Java’s trade balance with West Kalimantan recorded a surplus of Rp3.19 trillion, from East Java’s sales to West Kalimantan,” she said.
“These five main commodities contributed 96.21 percent to East Java’s total sales to West Kalimantan,” she said.
Meanwhile, East Java’s purchases from West Kalimantan were dominated by five main commodities: crude palm oil (63.84%), palm fruit and palm kernels (27.78%), sawn timber (6.87%), mandarin clementine tangerines (1.49%), and paper and cardboard packaging (0.01%).
“These five commodities accounted for 99.99 percent of East Java’s total purchases from West Kalimantan,” she said.
“This demonstrates the strong economic connectivity between the two provinces as well as the significant room to expand two-way trade in a more diverse and balanced manner,” she added.
East Java–West Kalimantan trade cooperation has been well established through previous Trade and Investment Mission activities held on 30 September 2022 in Pontianak City, with transaction commitment values of Rp109.31 billion through 24 trade transactions.
“This mission’s achievement has increased very significantly from the previous achievement in 2022. This must become momentum to strengthen the cooperation that has been built through commodity expansion, increased investment, and development of sustainable business partnerships,” she stressed.
East Java Province continues to demonstrate its strategic role in the national economy. In the first semester of 2026, East Java’s economy grew by 5.84% (c-to-c), higher than national economic growth.
East Java is also the second-largest contributor to Java’s economy with a contribution of 25.40% and contributes 14.34% to the national economy.
East Java’s economic structure is supported by the processing industry sector at 31.11%, trade at 18.22%, and agriculture at 11.20%. This structure shows that East Java has a strong, productive, and interconnected economic base from upstream to downstream sectors.
East Java’s trade performance also shows a positive trend. Throughout 2025, East Java’s trade balance recorded a surplus of Rp210.1 trillion, continuing into the first semester of 2026 with a surplus of Rp100.35 trillion. This achievement demonstrates the strength of trade activity and the competitiveness of East Java products.
“Regional economic strength cannot be built alone because each region has complementary advantages, needs, and potential. Interregional trade is very important as one of the foundations of national economic integration,” she explained.
Based on 2024 Indonesian Interregional Trade data, East Java’s total interregional trade reached Rp333.83 trillion. The high trade flows illustrate the large need for raw materials, energy, and various commodities to support industrial, manufacturing, trade, and consumption activities in East Java.
“In this position, trade missions are a strategic instrument. We want to bring together regions that have commodities with regions that need supply, shorten distribution chains, expand markets for leading products, while strengthening the use of domestic products,” she explained.
Cumulatively, from 2019 to 2026, East Java has conducted 53 domestic trade missions with total transaction commitments reaching Rp41.28 trillion from 2,282 transactions involving 2,654 businesses. East Java also continues to expand international markets.
Meanwhile, from 2022 to July 2026, eight overseas trade missions have been conducted to various countries and regions—Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Dili, Timor-Leste; Hong Kong; Osaka, Japan; and Singapore—with total transactions reaching Rp33.18 trillion.
“This is evidence that East Java’s leading products have high competitiveness in the global market. The same collaborative spirit certainly needs to continue to be strengthened in developing interregional trade, including with West Kalimantan,” she urged.
Governor Khofifah said trade missions are an effort to bring together the potential and needs of both regions, expand business networks, strengthen interregional supply chains, and build mutually beneficial economic cooperation.
Through this forum, the potential of the industrial, trade, agricultural, fisheries, agribusiness sectors, and investment opportunities can be directly matched with market needs.
“One of East Java’s leading sectors is livestock. Currently, the cattle population in East Java is very high—the largest cattle population in Indonesia, with the second position far behind. This sector could be developed in West Kalimantan,” she said.
Therefore, Governor Khofifah specifically invited the West Kalimantan Provincial Government to send a team to undertake artificial insemination training at the Ministry of Agriculture’s Artificial Insemination Centre in Singosari, East Java.
Not far from the centre, there is also the Livestock and Animal Feed Breeding Technical Implementation Unit owned by the East Java Provincial Government under the East Java Livestock Service, which focuses on breeding and rearing small ruminants such as goats, sheep, and rabbits.
To all businesses from East Java and West Kalimantan, Governor Khofifah advised them to make the most of this opportunity to bring together potential and needs, build trust, and open new cooperation opportunities and market networks.
“Let us make the best use of this Trade Mission momentum to open new opportunities, increase trade volume, and strengthen business networks between East Java and West Kalimantan,” she said.
West Kalimantan Governor Ria Norsan expressed gratitude for the visit of Governor Khofifah and the entire East Java Provincial Government delegation in this Trade and Investment Mission. According to him, this trade mission recorded very significant transactions compared to previous ones.
He said the province he leads must learn a great deal from East Java, which has many outstanding achievements. He hoped this trade mission would provide many benefits for the people of West Kalimantan and East Java.
“This is the largest transaction value. We express our gratitude. There is much we need to learn in East Java, and West Kalimantan still has much to learn from East Java,” said Governor Ria Norsan.
On this occasion, Governor Khofifah also invited all those present to jointly raise the Red and White Flag and sing the Hari Merdeka and Bendera songs. She said this is the right moment to ignite the spirit of nationalism and love for the homeland.
