East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa affirmed the readiness of the East Java Provincial Government to support the transformation of ports towards a smart, efficient, and competitive ecosystem. This was conveyed while accompanying Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan at the Green, Smart Port Initiative (GSPI) ASRI 2026 event at Pier C of PT Petrokimia Gresik on Wednesday (15/7).

Governor Khofifah stated that the green and smart port concept is a key factor in streamlining the national supply chain and logistics sector. According to her, modern port infrastructure is essential to maintain the stability of food distribution, particularly in the Eastern Indonesia region.

“National food self-sufficiency, which is the nation’s aspiration, will be realised if supported by smart and competitive port infrastructure. Green and intelligent ports will make the logistics sector more efficient,” said Khofifah.

In its implementation, the green port aspect focuses on reducing carbon emissions through the use of renewable energy, electric-based port equipment, and integrated waste management. Meanwhile, the smart port aspect prioritises loading and unloading automation, real-time container tracking, and a single window licensing system to accelerate the flow of goods.

Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan added that port transformation is no longer just an option but a necessity to strengthen food security. “Ports are strategic nodes that connect food production and distribution to all corners of Indonesia,” he stressed.

The GSPI ASRI 2026 event also served as a platform to present awards to several companies deemed successful in implementing sustainability principles. Some of the award recipients included PT Petrokimia Gresik, PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur, PT Krakatau Bandar Samudera, and PT Vale Indonesia.

The GSPI 2026 programme integrates the ASRI Indonesia Movement (Safe, Healthy, Clean, and Beautiful) initiated by the President. Through a self-assessment mechanism, port operators are encouraged to continuously innovate in digitalisation and environmental management to reduce logistics costs and attract international investment.
