Surabaya (ANTARA) – The East Java Provincial Government will provide free rides on Trans Jatim buses for one day, on 12 October 2026, to mark the 81st anniversary of East Java Province.

“On East Java’s 81st anniversary, we want to share the joy by offering free Trans Jatim services. Please make use of them to spend time with your family or simply try the experience of travelling on Trans Jatim. Come and ride Trans Jatim!” East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa said in Surabaya on Saturday.

The free service will apply to all Trans Jatim corridors in the Gerbangkertosusila and Malang Raya areas, with the exception of Trans Jatim Luxury.

The programme is intended to give people who have never used the transport service an opportunity to try it.

Khofifah said the free Trans Jatim service was not only part of the province’s anniversary celebrations, but also an opportunity to promote public transport as an option for everyday travel.

“Trans Jatim is here to support people’s mobility. When public transport becomes easier to access and is used more often, people have more options for travelling to work, school and other activity centres,” she said.

She hopes that the experience of using Trans Jatim for free will encourage people to continue using public transport after the programme ends.

“Our hope is that people will become more familiar with Trans Jatim and be willing to use it again. A culture of public transport use grows from good experiences and habits built together,” she said.

Khofifah said strengthening public transport was one way of translating the theme of East Java Province’s 81st anniversary, “East Java: Excellent, Advanced and Sustainable”, into a programme whose benefits people can experience directly.

“So, let us make the most of East Java’s anniversary. Come and try Trans Jatim, experience its benefits, and hopefully more people will make public transport part of their daily activities,” she said.
