East Java Government Holds Career Day 2026 with 680 Vacancies, 190 Reserved for Disabled
The Provincial Government of East Java, through the Manpower and Transmigration Office (Disnakertrans Jatim) in collaboration with the Special Job Exchange Forum (FBKK), held a Career Day or Mini Job Fair 2026 at the SMK Krian 1 Hall in Sidoarjo on Thursday (18/6). This strategic agenda successfully provided 680 job vacancies from 139 positions, of which 190 vacancies were specifically allocated for people with disabilities.
Head of Disnakertrans Jatim Sigit Priyanto stated that this step was taken as a tangible commitment by the East Java Provincial Government to expand access to inclusive employment while reducing the Open Unemployment Rate (APT), particularly among young graduates (fresh graduates). According to Sigit, the biggest challenge in the current world of work is the dynamics of digitalisation and automation, which demand rapid changes in competence. He noted that a diploma alone is no longer sufficient without being aligned with real skills (link and match) that meet market needs.
“Our biggest challenge is not a lack of job vacancies, but often a communication and information gap between job seekers and industry. This Mini Job Fair is a real answer to that challenge,” said Sigit Priyanto in his remarks.
Sigit also appreciated the collaboration between FBKK Sidoarjo and SMK Krian 1, while reminding schools not to merely become institutions that produce graduates, but also bridges that deliver students directly to the world of work.
Public enthusiasm for this job fair was recorded as very high, exceeding the committee’s target. From an initial estimate targeting 1,000 participants, the number of registrants surged to 1,282 job seekers. The demand for labour in this event was dominated by high school/vocational school graduates of all majors (26.7%) and Bachelor’s/S1 graduates of all majors (21.2%).
This high level of interest was facilitated by the presence of 20 companies and strategic partners from various industrial sectors. The manufacturing sector dominated with the involvement of 12 companies, followed by retail, agricultural equipment processing, shipping, logistics, Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), automotive, automotive packaging, distribution, and furniture.
In addition to the private sector, non-governmental and international organisations such as AISEC and Yayasan Plan International Indonesia, as well as official agencies such as BPP Sidoarjo and BP3TKI East Java, also opened booths. BP3TKI even provided special consultation services for people targeting job opportunities abroad.
One crucial point in this job fair was the opening of inclusive workspaces for people with disabilities (hearing, speech, mild physical, and visual impairments). A total of 190 job vacancies for people with disabilities were prepared by three large companies: PT Imora Sifana opened six positions with a total of 155 vacancies, PT Sumber Alfaria Trijaya (Alfamart) opened one position with a total of 25 vacancies, and PT Tiki Jalur Nugraha Ekakurir (JNE) opened one position with a total of 10 vacancies.
Regarding labour protection, Head of Disnakertrans Jatim Sigit Priyanto reaffirmed the implementation of East Java Governor Circular Letter Number 560 of 2025. “We reaffirm the prohibition on withholding or storing original documents that are inherently attached to workers as collateral. This circular also emphasises the elimination of age requirements and the provision of job opportunities for people with disabilities as a tangible form of equality,” said Sigit.
Meanwhile, Head of SMK Krian 1 Sidoarjo, Dhini Mekarsari, stated that the school is fully committed to facilitating alumni in obtaining employment, as well as conducting career monitoring for up to three years ahead. Dhini advised graduates, especially the class of 2026, to take advantage of this opportunity and not ignore the importance of non-academic aspects. “Character is the main thing prioritised by industry today. Companies are looking for workers who have good character, in addition to academic ability and skills,” explained Dhini Mekarsari. She also encouraged alumni to use this moment as a means of reading industry trends, and to continue developing their competencies through advanced training, including those facilitated by the Vocational Training Centre (BLK) or BBPVP to obtain recognised competency certificates.
