The value of exports from East Java reached USD 10.91 billion in the January–May 2026 period, marking a 2.92 percent decline compared to the same period last year, according to Statistics Indonesia (BPS) for East Java.

Acting Head of BPS East Java Herum Fajarwati stated on Wednesday that the export value fell from USD 11.24 billion in January–May 2025 to USD 10.91 billion this year. The decrease was triggered by a 2.28 percent weakening in non-oil and gas exports, which dropped from USD 11.00 billion to USD 10.75 billion.

The decline in oil and gas exports was influenced by a 49.64 percent plunge in crude oil exports to USD 109.28 million, while gas exports also fell 13.16 percent to USD 0.09 million.

Amid the overall export contraction, animal or vegetable fats and oils (HS 15) recorded the largest increase, rising 28.70 percent to USD 1.13 billion. The majority of these commodities were exported to China, with a value of USD 487.53 million.

Conversely, the deepest decline occurred in jewellery or precious stones (HS 71), which fell 40.80 percent to USD 1.26 billion. Fish, crustacean, and mollusc commodities (HS 03) also dropped 5.24 percent to USD 479.27 million.

During January–May 2026, the ten largest non-oil and gas commodity groups based on two-digit HS codes contributed 63.84 percent to East Java’s total non-oil and gas exports. In terms of growth, exports of these ten commodity groups fell 5.03 percent compared to the same period in 2025. Herum noted this was because several of East Java’s main export commodities experienced declines, particularly jewellery and precious stones, which hold the largest share.
