East Java Education Office prepares schools as transit points for 35th NU Congress participants

The East Java Education Office (Disdik Jatim) is preparing state senior high school (SMA) and vocational high school (SMK) buildings as transit points for participants of the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Congress in Jombang, 27–31 August 2026.

“We are supporting transit points at schools for congress participants who need rest and prayer, and perhaps they will shower and freshen up,” said Head of Disdik Jatim Aries Agung Paewai in Surabaya on Tuesday.

He said all state SMA and SMK schools across East Java are providing support by preparing school facilities that can be used by congress participants, particularly amid limited accommodation in Jombang Regency.

The facilities include classrooms, mosques, bathrooms, and toilets that can be used for resting, worship, and freshening up before participants continue their journey.

“Our schools are open to all congress participants, both the classrooms we have prepared as well as the mosques, bathrooms, and toilets,” he said.

The support is adjusted to learning activities. On 26–28 August 2026, schools in urban sub-districts and Tembelang Sub-district will conduct online learning, so unused facilities can be utilised as transit points.

“In fact, several schools are preparing snacks and light refreshments for groups transiting at schools located close to the activity sites,” he said.

According to Aries, the involvement of schools also serves as a means of social learning for students. The presence of participants from various regions can introduce the values of togetherness, mutual cooperation, tolerance, and respect for diversity.

“We hope students can also gain experience and learning from this NU Congress momentum. They can see how people from various regions come, gather, and together make a major agenda successful,” he said.

He emphasised that the schools’ readiness is a form of Disdik Jatim’s commitment to supporting the smooth running of the 35th NU Congress while also delivering benefits to the community.
