The East Java Education Agency (Dindik Jatim) announced that 296,287 prospective new pupils for state senior high schools (SMA) and vocational schools (SMK) have been verified and obtained a Personal Identification Number (PIN) in the 2026 New Pupil Admissions System (SPMB) after the PIN collection phase closed on 9 June. Head of Dindik Jatim, Aries Agung Paewai, stated that there would be no extension to the PIN collection period, even though some prospective pupils had yet to secure one by the deadline. “Alhamdulillah, the PIN collection phase has been completed. For those who have not obtained one, do not lose heart. Private schools also provide scholarships, and the quality of education is the same. So, stay enthusiastic about pursuing education,” Aries said in Surabaya on Wednesday. Data from the Educational Information and Communication Technology (TIKP) division as of 10 June 2026 at 11.30 WIB recorded 316,078 prospective pupils applying for a PIN, with 296,287 successfully obtaining one after a data verification and validation process. Meanwhile, 4,006 prospective pupils had not received a PIN by the end of the collection phase. Aries explained that during the PIN process, the SPMB helpdesk encountered several obstacles, including prospective pupils forgetting their Family Card (KK) issuance date when logging in, junior secondary schools (SMP) and Islamic junior secondary schools (MTs) not yet having input report card grades, and many pupils not independently verifying their grades. Additionally, some pupils requested verification cancellations due to grade errors discovered post-verification, mistakes in selecting KK and domicile certificate (SKD) conditions, and changes to disability status at parental request. According to Aries, the registration simulation, though not mandatory, is crucial for giving prospective pupils an overview of the actual registration process. “It is indeed not compulsory to join. However, those who skip this phase will be at a disadvantage as they will face difficulties when the actual SPMB takes place,” he said. He noted that the simulation is designed to resemble the real registration process, including for the domicile pathway, allowing pupils to learn their regular and distribution zoning based on their domicile along with the distance to their target schools. Aries further explained that participants in the Academic Achievement pathway for SMA and SMK could also ascertain the final score to be used during registration. “We created this registration simulation so that pupils have an overview, ensuring they understand the actual process when registration begins,” he added.
