The East Java Provincial Government has emphasised that all parties are currently prioritising the treatment of victims following suspected food poisoning at the Manba’ul Hikam Islamic Boarding School (Ponpes) in Sidoarjo, on Tuesday (1/9/2026). The Deputy Governor of East Java, Emil Elestianto Dardak, stated that all patients are being well-managed by hospitals and medical personnel.

“Patients are not being treated uniformly, but are receiving specialised care according to their individual medical conditions,” said Emil after visiting the victims at the Notopuro Regional General Hospital (RSUD) in Sidoarjo in the early hours of Wednesday (2/9/2026).

Emil explained that as of Wednesday at 00:30 WIB, several patients had been permitted to return home after their conditions were declared stable by the medical team. Hospitals remain on full alert to manage the situation.

Furthermore, Emil noted that similar incidents were recorded at several other locations on the same day. “In addition to the boarding school, there are several other educational units that experienced similar incidents. All of them share a commonality: they received food from the Kali Tengah Nutrition Fulfilment Service Unit (SPPG) in the Tanggulangin District, Sandoarjo, on Tuesday (1/9),” he said.

He confirmed that the operations of the Kali Tengah SPPG have been temporarily suspended by the government while awaiting laboratory test results and further evaluation regarding the cause of the incident. “The local government will also monitor all recipient educational units to ensure that no students are experiencing symptoms without having received medical attention,” Emil added.

Emil also ensured that the medical costs for all victims affected by the incident, whether in government or private hospitals, would be fully covered by the local government.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Sidoarjo Health Office, Dr Lakhsmie Herawati Yuwantina, stated that as of Wednesday (2/9) at 00:45, the number of suspected poisoning victims from the Manba’ul Hikam boarding school totalled 424 students, while 24 others were victims of similar incidents from outside the school. Of that number, Lakhsmie noted that 173 individuals had been discharged after receiving medical treatment.
