East Java deploys SAR team, health workers, and logistical aid to NTT
The Provincial Government of East Java has deployed search and rescue teams, health workers, and logistical aid worth Rp985.8 million to assist communities affected by the 7.7 magnitude earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
“East Java is here for NTT. When our brothers and sisters are struck by disaster, it is a humanitarian calling for us to strengthen and help one another. What is needed now is how we can move quickly, precisely, and in a coordinated manner so that aid truly meets the needs of the affected communities,” said East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa in Surabaya on Monday.
Khofifah said the support was a form of solidarity and mutual cooperation between regions to help handle the disaster in NTT.
As an initial step, the East Java Provincial Government, through the East Java Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), dispatched seven advance personnel on Sunday (16/8). Six personnel are part of the Rapid Reaction Team (TRC)/Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) joining the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) and other search and rescue potential elements.
In addition, the East Java Provincial Government sent a health team from Dr Soetomo Regional General Hospital (RSUD) Surabaya consisting of four medical personnel, including an orthopaedic specialist, an anaesthesiology specialist, and nurses, along with medicines and medical equipment.
In the initial phase, logistical aid reached 8.4 tonnes worth Rp985,816,345. The aid consisted of children’s supplies, folding beds, ready-to-eat meals, side dishes, supplementary nutritional food, and various biscuits.
“This is a form of mutual cooperation from the entire East Java Provincial Government. We consolidated aid from BPBD together with various regional agencies so that the most urgent needs for our brothers and sisters in NTT can be sent immediately,” said Khofifah.
“Later, the total aid from East Java to be dispatched is estimated at 100 tonnes. What was dispatched on 17 August 2026 amounted to 8.4 tonnes, and the remainder will be dispatched on 20 August 2026 to Labuan Bajo,” she said.
Khofifah stressed that East Java’s support would continue to be adjusted based on assessment results and the needs of communities on the ground.
“Once again, NTT’s sorrow is our shared sorrow. From East Java, we send prayers, care, and the best support. May our brothers and sisters in NTT be given strength and fortitude, and may NTT soon rise and recover from this disaster,” she said.
