East Java Brimob Provides Trauma Healing for Child Earthquake Victims in NTT, Smiles Return

The earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) not only damaged buildings and public facilities. The disaster has also left psychological distress, particularly for children who must now spend their days in evacuation shelters.

Amid the recovery process, members of the East Java Police Mobile Brigade (Satbrimob Polda Jatim) have stepped in to provide psychosocial support. Trauma healing sessions were held to help child victims of the NTT earthquake reduce anxiety while restoring their cheerfulness.

The atmosphere at several evacuation posts was made more relaxed. East Java Brimob personnel mingled with the children through games, singing, interaction, and various enjoyable educational activities.

A humanistic approach became the way personnel accompanied the children amid the post-disaster situation. Attention and entertainment were provided to recreate a sense of safety while they remain in the shelters.

Gradually, the atmosphere changed. Children who had previously appeared gloomy and overwhelmed by anxiety began to smile and laugh as they took part in the activities.

For the East Java Brimob, service in disaster response does not stop at the security aspect. The presence of personnel is also directed at helping the community get through the difficult period after the earthquake. Through trauma healing for child earthquake victims, personnel are working to reduce fear and trauma while restoring the children’s spirit and self-confidence.

Their cheerfulness is an important part of the recovery process. The smiles that have begun to appear and the laughter that can be heard again reflect children slowly adapting after facing the traumatic experience caused by the disaster.

The humanitarian assistance will continue as long as the community is still undergoing the post-disaster recovery process. The East Java Brimob has ensured that its personnel will remain present with the people of NTT, both to provide support and the humanitarian services needed by the survivors.
