East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa has finally spoken out in response to the proliferation of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) sting operations (OTT) against regional leaders in her province. Records show that three regional leaders in East Java have been ensnared in cases within the last year.

Khofifah stated that anti-corruption prevention efforts have actually been conducted intensively. She revealed the existence of a special communication channel between regional heads across East Java and the KPK’s Prevention Coordination and Supervision Team (Korsupgah).

“There is a group for regional heads with the KPK Korsupgah team, and actually [the regents/mayors] of districts/cities have already been invited by the KPK to seek solutions together, yes,” said Khofifah in her statement on Monday (13/4).

The former Social Affairs Minister added that the KPK has also personally summoned regional heads to provide socialisation on clean and integrity-based government management.

“Actually, all districts/cities have already been called one by one. Our hope is that everyone can maintain clean governance and good management,” she added.

Khofifah’s comments follow the latest arrest involving Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu Wibowo on Friday (10/4). Gatut was apprehended along with several officials from Regional Device Organisations (OPD) and his staff.

The Tulungagung case adds to the list of tainted regional leaders in East Java. Previously, in January 2026, inactive Madiun Mayor Maidi was also caught in a KPK OTT related to alleged extortion of CSR funds.

Much earlier, in November 2025, Ponorogo Regent Sugiri Sancoko was also nabbed by KPK investigators over an alleged bribery case involving the sale of positions and the construction project of dr Harjono Hospital.

Khofifah also requested that these incidents serve as lessons for the entire government apparatus in the East Java region, to preserve the dignity of good governance.

“So if something like this has happened, we certainly hand it over to the legal aspect. To the KPK. This is the KPK’s authority,” she concluded.
