East Jakarta Wedding Organiser Owner Held Over Alleged Scam of Engaged Couples
Police have interrogated married couple RM and ER, owners of a wedding organiser in East Jakarta, suspected of scamming dozens of engaged couples. Both have been named suspects.
“The suspects have been confirmed,” said East Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief Kombes Alfian Nurrizal when contacted on Sunday, 31 May 2026.
The couple has been detained at the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police detention facility. They are charged under Article 492 and Article 486 of the Criminal Code.
“Charged under Article 492 for fraudulent acts and Article 486 for embezzlement. The suspects were detained since yesterday, Saturday, 30 May 2026,” he added.
Alfian stated the suspects failed to fulfil their obligations as per the wedding organiser agreement with victims. Police are still conducting investigations.
“Based on preliminary investigations, after receiving payments from victims, the suspects did not fulfil their contractual obligations and their whereabouts became unknown to the victims, leading to numerous reports and complaints,” he said.
“Currently, investigators are delving into the motives, the suspects’ activities while uncontactable, and whether they attempted to evade legal proceedings before being apprehended by the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police Criminal Investigation Unit,” he added.
58 Victims Suffer Rp 2.6 Billion Loss
Police revealed a total of 58 engaged couples were victims of the East Jakarta wedding organiser owner’s scam. Total losses are estimated at Rp 2.6 billion.
“Of these, two couples have already held their weddings but did not receive the promised services, while the other 56 couples have been unable to hold their planned ceremonies,” said East Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief Kombes Alfian Nurrizal in a social media post on 30 May 2026.
“As of now, from 24 verified victims, the reported losses total approximately Rp 2,658,885,000. This figure may increase as data collection and verification of other victims continue,” he added.
The suspects are a married couple with initials RM and ER, currently in police custody.
Police are still conducting further investigations. He urged victims to report to the authorities.
“The East Jakarta Metropolitan Police Criminal Investigation Unit continues to investigate to fully uncover the modus operandi used and ensure legal proceedings comply with applicable regulations,” he said.
