East Jakarta Wedding Organiser Owner Flees as Office Closed
Police are investigating allegations of fraud by a wedding organiser (WO) targeting a couple, Aldi (32) and Feny (32). The owner of the WO is suspected of fleeing, according to investigators.
Kompol Andaru Rahutomo, Head of Public Relations Subsection for Jakarta Metropolitan Police, told reporters on Tuesday (26 May 2026): “Based on the investigation and findings by the officers, the suspect is no longer at the office.”
Andaru added that investigators from the East Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit visited the WO office in Jakarta Garden City (JGC), which was found empty. “The WO office in question is now closed, and the suspects are no longer at their residence,” he said.
Andaru also noted that there are more than one victim; two additional couples have come forward claiming losses of tens of millions of rupiah. “The total losses reported by the three victims to investigators range from Rp 70-80 million, with one case around Rp 50 million, all paid to the suspect,” he explained.
Victim’s Account
Aldi and Feny recounted their experience after falling victim to a wedding organiser scam based in East Jakarta, claiming losses of Rp 85.5 million.
“Initially, I found out about the WO through Instagram. After checking the price list and packages, I paid a deposit. Total loss is Rp 85.5 million,” Feny said.
Feny explained she used the services of Marwah WO after seeing promotions on Instagram. She was attracted by the wedding packages and paid a deposit.
After the initial payment, the couple attended a tasting session organised by the WO. During the event, Feny noticed staff from various vendors, including decorators, makeup artists (MUA), master of ceremony (MC), and samples of the wedding altar and buffet.
The couple also underwent bridal fitting at the WO office. Payments were made in stages until fully paid in early April 2026.
They increased the number of guests on 11 May 2026. Suspicion arose during an online technical meeting that was unusually brief.
On 13 May 2026, around 10 days before the wedding, the Islamic Centre Bekasi building management contacted them, stating the WO had not settled the venue payment.
Aldi said they repeatedly tried contacting the WO but received no response. On the day before the wedding, they visited the JGC office and found it empty.
