Jakarta (ANTARA) - The East Jakarta Vocational Training Centre (PPKD) is providing opportunities for those who wish to work abroad by facilitating thousands of participants in the selection process for a work placement programme in Japan.

“We are once again opening opportunities for people who want to pursue careers abroad through the work placement programme in Japan. This programme is the result of collaboration between the East Jakarta PPKD, the Indonesian Migrant Worker Placement Company (P3MI), and PT Transjakarta,” said the Head of the East Jakarta PPKD, Teguh Hendarwan, in Jakarta, Thursday.

The programme aims to prepare competent Indonesian workers who are ready to compete in the international job market.

Teguh said that prospective workers who will be sent to Japan must go through a series of rigorous selection processes.

The selection includes written tests, psychological tests, and interviews to ensure that participants have the skills and readiness that meet the needs of the industry in Japan.

In the selection process which took place at the East Jakarta PPKD, around 120 participants took part in the selection stage. This activity is part of the recruitment process which has started since last week and is carried out in stages.

“We have started recruitment since last week, and today is the fourth day, with 720 participants having taken part in the selection,” said Teguh.

“This number is part of the national target for sending workers to Japan, which is 3,000 people, in accordance with the needs and requests from the Japanese side,” said Teguh.

However, the number of workers sent through the East Jakarta PPKD is still relatively limited. In the last three years, 35 people have been placed to work in Japan.

In 2026, the East Jakarta PPKD targets sending 40 people to fill the need for workers in the fields of construction (scaffolding) and automotive or drivers.

The participants who pass will undergo work contracts for two to three years in Japan. Before being sent, they also receive various trainings to improve their competence and work readiness.

“Before leaving for Japan, they are given language training for 45 days to three months. They must reach the standard of Japanese language proficiency level N4, then they are given skills training according to the field of work they will be doing,” explained Teguh.

The programme not only aims to meet the workforce needs in Japan, but also as an effort to open up wider job opportunities for the Indonesian people, especially the residents of East Jakarta.

With adequate language skills and work skills, the participants are expected to be able to adapt to the work environment and culture in Japan.
