The Jakarta Provincial Government, through the East Jakarta Regional Vocational Training Centre (PPKD), is strengthening efforts to reduce unemployment by expanding its Mobile Training Unit (MTU) programme.

“This programme is one of our strategies to enhance community skills, ensuring better competitiveness in the workforce and the ability to establish independent businesses,” said the Head of PPKD East Jakarta, Teguh Hendarwan, in Jakarta on Thursday. He noted that all training programmes are designed based on labour market needs and emerging local business potential to ensure participants can immediately apply their skills to improve their economic welfare.

Through the MTU programme, PPKD East Jakarta delivers competency-based training that reaches residents at the sub-district level. This initiative is expected to broaden access for citizens to acquire vocational skills without the need to travel long distances to training centres.

Currently, ongoing training includes makeup and hairstyling in South Utan Kayu, food and beverage production as well as bakery and pastry making in Malaka Sari, and basic garment sewing in East Cakung. Additionally, a basic barista course is being held in Pisangan Baru to meet the growing demand for labour in the food and beverage industry.

Overall, the PPKD East Jakarta MTU programme covers 10 vocational fields designed to address evolving market needs. Most training sessions last for 20 working days, with a greater emphasis on practical application over theory to ensure participants are job-ready.

For the English language programme, the training lasts 45 days to cover a wider range of learning levels and competencies, including basic grammar, speaking, conversation, listening, and essential communication skills required in various sectors.

“Improving community competence is key to facing employment challenges amidst increasingly dynamic industrial changes. Therefore, PPKD East Jakarta continues to strive to provide relevant and accessible training programmes,” said Teguh. Supported by national competency certification, the MTU programme aims to produce a more competitive, productive, and adaptable workforce.
