East Jakarta Transportation Sub-Department Studies Official Parking on Jalan Matraman Raya
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The East Jakarta Transportation Sub-Department (Sudinhub) is currently studying the application of official parking in the Jalan Matraman Raya area, specifically around the East Jakarta Metro Police Resort and Jatinegara Health Centre.
Head of the Operations Section of the East Jakarta Transportation Sub-Department, Emiral August Dwinanto, stated that the study considers community needs as well as the provisions outlined in Regional Regulation (Perda) No. 5 of 2012 on Parking.
“It is still under study, considering the needs of the community required there. It is also in accordance with Perda 5 of 2012 on parking,” said Emiral when confirmed in Jakarta on Friday.
This step is taken as an effort to regulate illegal parking, which has been deemed to cause congestion and disrupt road users and pedestrians.
According to Emiral, the Jalan Matraman Raya area is a centre of community activity because it features various public facilities and activity hubs.
From places of worship, hospitals, service offices, culinary centres, markets, to police offices, all are located along that road stretch.
He assessed that the presence of various activity centres indeed requires more organised parking arrangements to avoid disorder on the road.
“Well, there are activity centres there like churches, hospitals, post offices, Police Resort, culinary centres, markets. But because it’s not yet organised, it becomes chaotic. If it’s organised later, it should be neat. But it’s still under study,” said Emiral.
Enforcement is carried out routinely every morning, involving combined officers with the Propam of the East Jakarta Metro Police Resort.
Emiral assured that there are no exceptions in handling vehicles that violate parking rules, including those parked in front of the East Jakarta Metro Police Resort area.
In the enforcement operation conducted on Friday morning, officers took firm action against several vehicles found parked on the road body.
Some vehicles were towed, while others were subjected to tyre deflation by removing the valve cores.
The parking arrangement in that area has come under public scrutiny after a video of the illegal parking conditions around the East Jakarta Metro Police Resort went viral on social media. The video, uploaded by the Instagram account @ijooel, shows cars and motorbikes parked, occupying one lane of Jalan Matraman Raya.
In the video, vehicles are seen parked in a row from in front of the East Jakarta Health Sub-Department building to the Jatinegara Market area. That condition narrows the road width and causes traffic flow to be congested.
Not only private vehicles, several assets belonging to the Police Resort, such as boats, were also seen placed on the pavement area. This is considered to disrupt the rights of pedestrians passing through the area.
