East Jakarta Transportation Agency Implements Traffic Engineering at Cakung Intersection to Prevent Congestion

The East Jakarta Transportation Agency (Sudinhub) has implemented traffic engineering in the Cakung underpass intersection area in an effort to prevent vehicle congestion during peak hours. “Vehicles heading towards Jalan Cacing (Cakung-Cilincing) are temporarily directed to go straight and turn around at the U-turn in front of the Cakung Police Station to avoid bottlenecks at the intersection,” said Head of the East Jakarta Transportation Agency, Harlem Simanjuntak, on Wednesday. Harlem stated that the traffic engineering measure is only applied to large vehicles such as trucks. “Only large vehicles are directed to turn around in front of the Cakung Police Station,” he said. He explained that since 07:00 WIB, traffic conditions on Jalan Raya Bekasi, precisely at the Cakung Underpass Intersection, were observed to be busy but still flowing smoothly. Meanwhile, the flow of vehicles heading towards Jalan Raya Cakung-Cilincing began to experience an increase in volume. “For this morning’s traffic situation on Jalan Raya Bekasi, both towards Pulogadung and Bekasi, it is busy but smooth. On Jalan Cakung-Cilincing, there is a slowdown, but other flows are moving because there is still a queue entering the depot,” Harlem explained. Harlem urged motorists to follow the directions of officers and obey the applicable traffic signs so that journeys remain safe and vehicle flow remains controlled during the morning peak hours. Previously, the Traffic Unit (Satlantas) of the East Jakarta Metro Police revealed that the severe congestion occurring on the Jalan Raya Bekasi stretch to Jalan Raya Cakung-Cilincing was triggered by truck loading and unloading activities at several depots. “That is correct, the cause of the long traffic jam is due to trucks loading and unloading at several depots in Cakung,” said East Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Unit Head, Kompol Harnas Prihandito, on Tuesday (21/7). The large number of trucks entering and exiting the depot area causes the road capacity to decrease, resulting in stalled vehicle flow, especially during peak hours. The slowdown in traffic flow on both Jalan Raya Bekasi and Jalan Raya Cakung-Cilincing is worsening, especially as the route is a main artery for private vehicles, public transport, and logistics vehicles.
