East Jakarta Transportation Agency Cracks Down on Parking Violations on Viral Mayjen Sutoyo Road
The East Jakarta Transportation Agency (Sudinhub) has emphasised that parking on Jalan Mayjen Sutoyo in Cawang, East Jakarta, is only permitted at specific points and times in accordance with applicable regulations. The problem on the ground is that many vehicles park beyond capacity and do not follow the established parking patterns.
Head of the East Jakarta Sudinhub, Harlem Simanjuntak, stated that his team has followed up on public reports regarding the parking conditions in the area. ‘On the Jalan Mayjen Sutoyo section, there is indeed on-street parking regulation at certain points and hours. However, vehicles are still found parking exceeding capacity and not in accordance with the designated parking rows,’ Harlem said on Thursday (25/6).
He explained that on the west side of Jalan Mayjen Sutoyo heading towards Tanjung Priok, 45-degree angled parking in a single row is implemented, except between 06:00 and 10:00 WIB. This area can accommodate approximately 95 cars and 200 motorcycles spread across three parking segments. Meanwhile, on the east side heading towards Cililitan, parallel parking in a single row is enforced and is prohibited on working days between 16:00 and 20:00 WIB. This section has a capacity of about 26 cars.
According to Harlem, the installed signs comply with the Minister of Transportation Regulation Number 13 of 2014. Outside the prohibited hours, vehicles are allowed to park provided they follow the single-row pattern in the left lane. The regulation also does not apply on Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays. ‘The problem is not whether parking exists in that location, but that vehicles are parking in violation of the rules, exceeding capacity, or crossing the designated parking row boundaries,’ he said.
The East Jakarta Sudinhub has confirmed it will tighten supervision and control illegal parking, especially during peak congestion hours. Enforcement action will be taken against vehicles that do not comply with the provisions to ensure smooth traffic flow along the Jalan Mayjen Sutoyo corridor.
