East Jakarta tightens monitoring of slippery Kramat Jati road following fatal accident
The East Jakarta city government is tightening monitoring of slippery road conditions in the Pasar Kramat Jati area as a follow-up to public complaints, particularly after an accident occurred.
The move also follows a traffic accident that caused the death of an 18-year-old student named Hammamshidqi Hammamut on Monday (17/8).
“Temporary guarding must still be carried out through the Transportation Sub-department (Sudinhub), the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), the Environment Sub-department (Sudin LH), the sub-district and the urban village,” said East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin in Jakarta on Friday.
Munjirin said his office had held a Coordination Meeting on the Relocation of the Fish Market in Front of Pasar Kramat Jati at the Mayor’s Office on Thursday (20/8).
This step was also taken under the direct instruction of Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung to create a safe, clean and sustainably orderly urban environment, while ensuring that residents’ economic activities continue to run well.
Munjirin explained that the slippery road conditions were caused by wastewater spills from the sale of wet commodities, such as fish and shellfish, and require joint attention, especially at vulnerable points.
“This is being done to address potential dangers for road users and prevent accidents. But we emphasise that everything must comply with the rules,” said Munjirin.
On the other hand, Munjirin acknowledged that following the incident, the East Jakarta city government has continued to carry out monitoring along Jalan Kramat Jati.
Furthermore, as a form of commitment to supporting the sustainability of traders’ businesses, the East Jakarta city government is mapping and preparing options so that they can continue trading in accordance with applicable regulations.
Discussions continue to be held with all parties, including sub-district, urban village, RT and RW officials.
The discussions also involve Perumda Pasar Jaya as the manager of Pasar Kramat Jati, the Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises Sub-department (Sudin PPKUKM), the Highways Sub-department, and other related parties.
Munjirin hopes that this cross-sector coordination can produce an area arrangement that does not create new problems, both in terms of road user safety, environmental cleanliness, traffic flow, and the sustainability of community economic activity.
Previously, a student with the initials HH (18) died after being run over by a truck on Jalan Raya Bogor, in the Pasar Induk Kramat Jati area, East Jakarta, allegedly while on his way to school.
HH died after the motorcycle he was riding was involved in an accident with a dump truck. The accident involved a Honda Beat motorcycle with registration number B 3122 SDL and a Sanitation Department dump truck with registration number B 9728 TOQ.
As a result of the accident, the victim suffered severe injuries and died at the scene. Officers then evacuated the victim to Bhayangkara TK I Pusdokkes Polri Hospital in East Jakarta for further examination.
