The East Jakarta Regional Office of the Directorate General of Taxes (Kanwil DJP) has intensified tax law enforcement by simultaneously freezing bank accounts belonging to tax defaulters. This decisive measure was implemented to secure state revenue and accelerate the settlement of outstanding tax arrears.

During the operation, 7lag 76 accounts linked to 53 taxpayers and 95 tax guarantors were successfully blocked. The total tax arrears targeted for collection amount to Rp71 billion. The freezing of accounts was carried out progressively and extensively between 23 February and 17 April 2026. To execute this action, State Tax Bailiffs (JSPN) from several Tax Service Offices (KPP) under the East Jakarta Regional Office were deployed to trace and block the financial assets of the defaulters.

This enforcement action was supported by close cooperation with 29 banks and Financial Service Institutions (LJK) located across various regions in Indonesia.

A Final Measure Following Persuasive Approaches

“The freezing of these accounts was not an immediate step, but rather part of an advanced active collection procedure. Before reaching the freezing stage, the tax authorities had undertaken a series of persuasive and administrative steps, ranging from appeals and the issuance of Warning Letters to the delivery of Distress Warrants,” said the Head of Counseling, Service, and Public Relations, Imam Nashirudin, on Thursday (4/6/2026).

“The freezing was forced into execution because neither the taxpayers nor the tax guarantors demonstrated good faith in settling their tax debts within the timeframe stipulated by law,” he added.

Imam Nashirudin stated that this measure is backed by strong legal foundations, namely Law Number 19 of 1997 concerning Tax Collection with Distress Warrants, as last amended by Law Number 14 of 2002, as well as Minister of Finance Regulation Number 61 of 2023 (PMK 61/2023) regarding the Procedures for Implementing Tax Collection on Amounts Still Payable.

Philosophically, this law enforcement represents a tangible manifestation of the East Jakarta Regional Office’s commitment to maintaining the authority of the taxation office. This action is crucial to ensure fairness for the majority of taxpayers who have consistently complied with their obligations voluntarily. Furthermore, this firmness is expected to create a deterrent effect for uncooperative parties.
