East Jakarta Specialised Welding Training Centre Provides Free Underwater Welding Course
The Specialised Welding Development Training Centre (PPKPL) Condet, located in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, is providing free underwater welding vocational training to dozens of participants.
“Sixteen selected participants are attending the free underwater welding training at the PPKPL Condet, Kramat Jati, East Jakarta,” stated the Head of PPKPL Condet, Benny Nusantara, in Jakarta on Friday.
He noted that upon completing the training, participants will receive two certificates: one from the PPKPL and another from the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP).
The selection process began when online registration opened in March 2026, attracting a total of 1,566 applicants. The training programme runs from 1 September to 12 October 2026.
“To obtain the BNSP certificate, participants must undergo competency testing scheduled for 13-14 October,” Benny added.
According to him, before moving on to the underwater welding modules, participants first receive diving preparation. Participants receive both theoretical and practical diving instruction using full equipment, while the actual underwater welding practice is scheduled to commence next week.
He urged all participants to take the training seriously and remain diligent. He highlighted that underwater welding skills command high economic value when pursued through external private institutions.
“The knowledge gained here is very expensive if pursued through external training centres. However, here, it is free,” said Benny.
One of the participants, 23-year-old Darel Hamdani Wardana, expressed his interest in the programme to deepen his welding expertise. “I previously studied Marine Science at Brawijaya University. Now, I want to advance my marine science knowledge towards commercial applications. That is why I am learning underwater welding,” Darel explained.
He also stated his readiness to undertake the underwater welding practicals to acquire skills that will support his career plans within the marine and offshore industries.
