A video circulating on social media allegedly showed a staff member at a junior secondary school in East Jakarta (Jaktim) soliciting a university student for online sex work, though the individual was later identified as an administrative officer rather than a teacher.

In the viral video, a narrative described the female university student as conducting a road show event at the school. The individual purchased the student’s products and requested her WhatsApp number under the pretext of making another purchase.

The perpetrator contacted the victim several days later, with the WhatsApp conversation subsequently shifting towards harassment.

Through WhatsApp messages, the perpetrator invited the victim to dine together, an offer which was refused. He then allegedly invited the victim to engage in paid sexual services, sometimes referred to as “open BO” (online booking).

Upon discovering the incident, the victim’s partner visited the school. The perpetrator then apologised.

Chico Hakim, Special Staff to the Jakarta Governor, confirmed the incident occurred but clarified that the perpetrator was not a teacher but rather an administrative staff member at the school.

“The perpetrator is identified as an administrative staff member at the junior secondary school,” Chico said when contacted on Monday (16 March 2026).

Chico stated that the perpetrator is currently undergoing investigation by the Jakarta Education Authority. The perpetrator has been relieved of his duties whilst the investigation proceeds.

“The examination process is currently ongoing at the authority level. During the investigative process, no duties are assigned, or the person has been suspended,” he said.
