East Jakarta Residents Join Protest Against Padel Courts, Display Banners Demanding Peace
Residents of RT 05 RW 13, Kayu Putih subdistrict, Pulomas, East Jakarta, have rejected the presence of a padel court operating in their residential area. Locals have put up protest banners demanding the return of a peaceful living environment.
Observations by detikcom at RT 05 RW 13, Kayu Putih subdistrict, Pulomas, East Jakarta, on Saturday (21/2/2026), showed red banners strung across fences. Banners were also displayed along several roads within the residential area.
The banners bore messages including: “We Reject the Presence of a Padel Court in the RW 013 Neighbourhood.”
“We demand that our neighbourhood returns to being calm and peaceful,” another banner read.
The alleyways leading to the padel court appeared deserted. Meanwhile, no activity or sound could be heard from the padel court itself. The car park near the facility was largely empty, with only one vehicle parked in front of the building.
One resident encountered near the location said the noise had been felt from morning until night. According to the resident, the sound of balls being struck and players shouting was sufficiently disruptive to interfere with rest periods.
“During the day it might still be tolerable, but when it goes on into the night, that’s what causes the disturbance. Especially since this is close to homes, and the vehicles going there are numerous and often speed,” the resident said.
The rejection of padel courts has also occurred on Jalan Haji Nawi, Cilandak, South Jakarta, where residents have protested over noise generated by a padel facility.
Residents had undertaken mediation with the padel court operator. However, they said they remained unsatisfied with the outcome.
“Regarding the recent mediation, honestly the results have not been fully satisfactory for us as affected residents,” said a local resident named Naufal (27), when contacted on Saturday (21/2).
DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has called for the facilities to be monitored and warned that firm measures would be taken. Pramono said his administration would also summon the operators and other relevant stakeholders.
“I have specifically asked the relevant agencies conducting field supervision to address this padel issue,” Pramono told reporters at Taman Semanggi, South Jakarta, on Friday (20/2).
