Jakarta (ANTARA) - The East Jakarta Highways Agency (Suku Dinas Bina Marga) has repaired 1,745 potholes spread across 10 sub-districts in the area.

"Since early February until now, a total of 1,745 potholes in East Jakarta have been patched," said Head of the East Jakarta Highways Agency Benhard Hutajulu when contacted in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Benhard noted that frequent rainfall since January had caused waterlogging and flooding, which in turn damaged road surfaces.

"We are carrying out pothole repairs in stages. These repairs are being done to ensure safety and comfort for road users," he said.

Benhard explained that of the total 1,745 points, the patching work used 558.62 cubic metres of hotmix, 1,575.68 cubic metres of coldmix, 427.04 cubic metres of scrap material, and 0.12 cubic metres of concrete.

In total, the length of road repaired reached 2,758.86 metres with an average width of 0.93 metres. "The total area of repairs amounts to 2,561.46 square metres," he said.

Additionally, each repair site deployed an average of eight to ten personnel from the Highways Agency. "Besides carrying out repairs, they also manage traffic flow around the sites to minimise congestion," he said.

Among the potholes repaired were those on Jalan Kolonel Sugiono, Jalan Laksamana Malahayati, Jalan DI Panjaitan, Jalan Raya Matraman, and other locations.

"Pothole conditions are dynamic. After heavy rain or waterlogging, new potholes frequently appear," Benhard said.

Benhard assured that his team continues to conduct daily monitoring to check for any damage. "We monitor every day, and if damage is found, we immediately carry out repairs," he stressed.

The East Jakarta Municipal Government is targeting the completion of all road repairs in the area this year.

"This year, the target is to complete repairs on all potholes so they are all addressed," said East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin at the East Jakarta Regional Job Training Centre (PPKD) on Monday (9 February).

The target was set amid increasing road damage caused by high rainfall intensity in recent weeks.

To support this target, the East Jakarta Municipal Government continues to monitor road conditions through reports from kelurahan and sub-district offices, as well as through direct field inspections.

Regular coordination with relevant agencies is also being carried out to ensure the repair process runs effectively and is properly targeted.
