East Jakarta PMI Intensifies Jumantik Cadre Training to Prevent Dengue Fever
The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) in East Jakarta is intensifying training for Jumantik (larva monitoring worker) cadres to strengthen the prevention and control of Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever (DBD) in the local area.
“Through this activity, the East Jakarta City PMI hopes that Jumantik cadres, volunteers, and PMI staff will be able to increase their capacity for early detection,” said East Jakarta City PMI Chairman Bambang Pangestu in Jakarta on Friday.
PMI East Jakarta held training on Outbreak (KLB) Control and Community-Based Surveillance (SBM) for Dengue as part of the implementation of the Mosquito Borne Disease Prevention Program (MBDPP).
According to Bambang, the training aims to increase community capacity in preventing and controlling dengue through a community-based approach. The training participants are active Jumantik cadres as well as PMI East Jakarta volunteers and staff who will become drivers of education and surveillance in their respective areas.
“During the training, participants received material on the basic concepts of Outbreak Control, Community-Based Surveillance, vector control, risk communication, and the preparation of follow-up plans at the community level,” Bambang explained.
The learning process in the programme uses participatory methods that combine material delivery, group discussions, case studies, simulations, presentations, and evaluation through pre- and post-training tests.
Bambang expressed hope that the training would provide all participants with comprehensive insight into community-based dengue prevention strategies. “Hopefully, participants will receive education on Clean and Healthy Living Behaviour (PHBS), mosquito nest eradication (PSN), and strengthen coordination with health facilities and local government in facing potential dengue outbreaks,” Bambang said.
Meanwhile, it is known that the number of dengue cases in East Jakarta from January to mid-June 2026 totalled 1,951 cases. The highest number of cases was found in Cakung with 360, while the lowest was in Makasar with 113 cases.
