East Jakarta PMI Distributes School Supplies to Hundreds of Orphanage Children
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) of East Jakarta has distributed school supplies to the children of the Putra Utama 1 Children’s Social Welfare Institution in Klender, Duren Sawit.
“Today, we from the East Jakarta Indonesian Red Cross, working together with the Amway Peduli Foundation, handed over assistance to the children at the Putra Utama 1 Children’s Social Welfare Institution in Klender,” said the Chairman of PMI East Jakarta, Bambang Pangestu Aldryan, at the institution on Sunday.
The assistance distributed comprised supplies to support daily learning activities, ranging from hats, clothing and trousers to shoes and stationery.
According to Bambang, the collaboration between PMI East Jakarta and the Amway Peduli Foundation can continue, so that its benefits can be felt more widely by the community, especially children in need of support.
On that occasion, Bambang urged the institution’s managers to continue running development activities in line with the institution’s core functions and duties, particularly providing education and guidance to the children.
“Continue to carry out activities in accordance with the main function of educating the children of this institution, in line with the mandate of the 1945 Constitution to enlighten the life of the nation,” said Bambang.
“We hope these school supplies can motivate our children to study even more diligently. And we pray that PMI East Jakarta and Amway Peduli continue to progress, triumph and succeed,” said Rani.
Rani said the Putra Utama 1 Children’s Social Welfare Institution currently cares for 140 children, comprising 80 boys and 60 girls.
The children at the institution are aged between around 7 and 15, from primary school (SD) age through early adolescence.
To meet their educational needs, the children attend a number of schools near the institution, such as those in the Klender area, including SDN Klender 14, SDN Klender 15 and SDN Klender 16.
“Some are also pursuing education at special needs schools (SLB) as well as following education through Community Learning Activity Centres (PKBM) with the Package A programme,” said Rani.
The programme focuses on providing school supplies for children. According to Riana, the programme has been running since 2018 and was initially implemented in a number of regions, including Bandung and Yogyakarta.
“After that, we replicated it in several areas across Indonesia. So of course it is not only in East Jakarta,” said Riana.
In the activity in the Jakarta area, the Amway Peduli Foundation provided school supplies to 100 children. Ten children received assistance in South Jakarta, while the other 90 were in East Jakarta.
“The point is that we want to convey, together with the community, that a healthy lifestyle is important and must start from an early age,” said Riana.
