East Jakarta PMI confirms blood supply safe, donors reach 13,000

The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) in East Jakarta has confirmed that the availability of blood stocks in its area is in a safe condition, reaching up to 13,000 bags. “There is nothing to worry about. Regarding the blood stock in East Jakarta, I can say that the blood stock is safe,” said East Jakarta PMI Chairman Bambang Pangestu Aldryan in Jakarta on Monday. Bambang stated that the daily demand for blood in East Jakarta reaches 30 to 50 bags. This is in line with public participation in blood donation activities. “Throughout January to June 2026, a total of 13,002 donors contributed to meeting the blood demand,” he said. The East Jakarta PMI continues to encourage public participation in donating blood by visiting various communities. “Alhamdulillah, for blood donation activities in East Jakarta, many communities now care about carrying out blood donations,” said Bambang. He mentioned that almost every day his team dispatches a mobile blood donor unit to various locations. This effort aims to expand the service reach and make it easier for the public to participate in humanitarian actions. Furthermore, the transfusion needs of patients also vary and do not always require whole blood. Sometimes, patients only need specific blood components according to their medical condition. “When blood is needed, we also require a referral from a doctor. Because the blood needed is not necessarily the same or does not have to be whole blood,” said Bambang. He cited the example of dengue haemorrhagic fever patients experiencing a drop in platelet count, who often only need platelet components, not whole blood. In addition to platelets, other components such as plasma may also be needed by patients and are processed at the blood donor service unit according to medical needs. He urged members of the public who need blood to access the Blood Donor Service Unit at the East Jakarta PMI Headquarters on Jalan I Gusti Ngurah Rai.
