A video of a motorcycle theft at a shoe shop in the Cipinang Muara area, Duren Sawit district, East Jakarta, has circulated on social media. The perpetrator, identified only by the initials YH, has now been arrested by the police.

“The Special Sub-Directorate for Mobile Criminal Investigation of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police’s General Criminal Investigation Directorate successfully uncovered the motorcycle theft case that occurred in the Cipinang Muara area, Duren Sawit,” read a statement on the Instagram account @resmob_pmj, Wednesday (25 February 2026).

The theft occurred on 11 February 2026. In the CCTV footage that circulated, the perpetrator is seen breaking into the ignition of a motorcycle parked in front of a shoe shop.

“The victim, who is an employee of the shoe shop, only realised that his motorcycle was missing when he was about to close the shop around eight o’clock in the evening,” he explained.

The perpetrator initially fled after carrying out the theft. However, his escape ended on Thursday, 19 February 2026, when investigators arrested him in the Bekasi area, West Java.

“Without resistance, the perpetrator was arrested by officers at seven o’clock in the evening at a rented house in the Kampung Siluman area, Tambun Selatan, Bekasi Regency,” he said.

A number of pieces of evidence were seized by investigators from the perpetrator. These include a T-shaped wrench used to damage the ignition of the motorcycle the perpetrator targeted.

“Currently, YH and the evidence have been taken to the Jakarta Metropolitan Police headquarters for intensive questioning and further investigation,” he said.

The police have named the perpetrator as a suspect. The perpetrator faces charges under Article 477 of the Criminal Code, with a maximum sentence of 9 years in prison.
