East Jakarta Mayor urges SDA to utilise ex-illegal dump site asset in Kramat Jati
Jakarta (ANTARA) - East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin has asked the Jakarta Water Resources Agency (Dinas SDA) to utilise land previously used as an illegal temporary waste disposal site (TPS) on Jalan Penggilingan Baru I, RW 03, Dukuh, Kramat Jati.
“That land is indeed an asset, and I have already coordinated with the Head of the Water Resources Agency; the asset is recorded under the agency,” said Munjirin at Taman Cempaka, Cilangkap, East Jakarta, on Tuesday.
The coordination was carried out following a fire that occurred on Saturday (1/2). Munjirin assessed that an unutilised government asset used for waste disposal activities could pose risks to residents living around the location.
Based on the results of coordination with the Head of the Jakarta Water Resources Agency, Munjirin said, the land at the site is recorded as an asset of the agency.
“And after this, I have requested the agency head to ensure that the asset is utilised as soon as possible, so that it is no longer used as it was previously, which ultimately proved dangerous when a fire broke out and endangered nearby residents,” he explained.
In addition, he also warned against a recurrence of waste accumulation that could trigger fires with consequences for the environment and the safety of surrounding residents.
The issue concerns not only cleanliness but also how government assets are managed and safeguarded.
“Yes, I emphasised once again, repeatedly, during the Monday morning assembly, that all regional apparatus organisations (UKPD) holding assets that are not yet well utilised should safeguard them, inventory them, and maximise their use,” he said.
Government assets that cannot yet be utilised should at least be kept in a safeguarded condition. “If they cannot be used yet, the important thing is to secure them first so they do not endanger nearby residents,” he said.
As previously reported, the fire at the waste disposal site covering roughly 6,000 square metres began on Saturday (1/2) morning.
The blaze was suspected to have originated from children playing with fire in the waste pile area. The flames then grew due to strong gusts of wind.
By Sunday (2/2) afternoon, joint personnel were still carrying out cooling operations and sorting through waste material to ensure that all points of fire and smoke had been fully extinguished.
An officer from the East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-department (Gulkarmat) named Andriyono died while extinguishing the fire on the vacant land filled with waste.
