East Jakarta Mayor invites residents to collaborate on environmental challenges
East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin has invited the public to strengthen collaboration in facing various environmental challenges in Jakarta, ranging from water scarcity and prolonged drought to waste problems, as part of efforts to fill independence with concrete work.
“Independence is also a mandate that must be continuously safeguarded and filled with real work for the community, the nation, and the state,” said Munjirin at the East Jakarta Mayor’s Office on Monday.
According to Munjirin, this is important amid the various dynamics and challenges facing Jakarta as it continues to accelerate its steps towards becoming a national economic centre and a global city.
One of these is through economic resilience, which serves as crucial capital for sustainable development while strengthening its position to enter the ranks of the top 20 Global Cities by 2045.
Furthermore, Jakarta’s development is directed towards driving economic growth, reducing inequality, and ensuring that no resident is left behind in order to realise a sovereign, just, and prosperous Indonesia.
“The commitment to strengthening the quality of human resources is the main foundation, reflected in Jakarta’s Human Development Index achievement of 85.05 in 2025, the highest nationally,” explained Munjirin.
Munjirin stated that this commitment is realised through strategic programmes such as KJP Plus, the Jakarta Superior Student Card, diploma legalisation, and People’s Schools.
“Jakarta’s progress must begin with its people. Opportunities to obtain education and improve quality of life must be opened as widely as possible to break the cycle of disadvantage,” said Munjirin.
In addition to human resources, Munjirin highlighted the strengthening of infrastructure that must continue to be carried out to answer the needs of the community while boosting Jakarta’s competitiveness as a global city.
Furthermore, the city’s progress must also be supported by a quality environment and residents’ lives to face challenges such as prolonged drought, water scarcity, and waste problems.
“Cross-sector collaboration is greatly needed in delivering real solutions to these urban problems,” said Munjirin.
As a concrete step in environmental management, the government is promoting the waste sorting from source movement and expanding the presence of TPS 3R facilities through cooperation with the private sector.
The public is also invited to strengthen preparedness for the dry season and disasters through the “Jaga Jakarta” campaign, wise water use, and fire mitigation education.
These various efforts are accompanied by professional governance, proven by Jakarta’s success in maintaining an Unqualified Opinion for the ninth time on its Regional Financial Report.
“Independence today is no longer about physical battles with weapons, but about lowering one’s ego to listen to each other and work together. Let us take on whatever role, no matter how small, to jointly build Jakarta’s progress for the future of a sovereign, just, and prosperous Indonesia,” said Munjirin.
The series of activities for the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia concluded with the cutting of a tumpeng as an expression of gratitude for the nation’s independence.
The tumpeng was presented by the Mayor to former East Jakarta Administrative Mayor H.R Krisdianto, who served from 2012 to 2015. The event also featured the distribution of aid from Baznas Bazis to representatives of East Jakarta veterans.
