Jakarta (ANTARA) - The East Jakarta Food Security, Maritime, and Agriculture Sub-Department (Sudin KPKP) continues to promote efforts to capture plecostomus fish in several river flows across every subdistrict.

β€œThe enthusiasm for capturing plecostomus fish continues; as yesterday, we conducted hunts for plecostomus fish in every subdistrict for the benefit of us all,” said Head of Sudin KPKP East Jakarta Taufik Yulianto when contacted by ANTARA in Jakarta on Tuesday.

This step is taken as part of controlling invasive species deemed to damage aquatic ecosystems and threaten the existence of local fish.

In its implementation, Sudin KPKP East Jakarta involves field officers, environmental communities, and surrounding residents to carry out routine captures.

The methods used include setting nets and manual capturing at points that are habitats for the fish, such as riverbanks and water channels.

In addition, this activity is accompanied by education for the public to avoid releasing pet fish into rivers. Such actions are one of the main causes of invasive species appearing in public waters.

Previously, around 30 combined personnel conducted a plecostomus fish capture operation in the Ciliwung Child Canal on Jalan Ksatrian X RW 03 Kebon Manggis, Matraman, East Jakarta, on Monday (20/4).

In that activity, personnel from PPSU and UPS Water Body directly combed the water flow at the water gate located on the border of Jalan Tambak, Manggarai, South Jakarta.
