A government residence belonging to the Parks Department in the Public Cemetery area on Jalan Kebon Nanas, Jatinegara, East Jakarta, caught fire on Sunday evening (31 May 2026).

Head of Operations Section for East Jakarta Sub-District Fire and Rescue Office (Sudin Gulkarmat), Abdul Wahid, stated the fire was suspected to be caused by an electrical short circuit, with estimated property damage of Rp10 million.

“Although there were no fatalities, the incident caused material damage estimated at Rp10 million,” Abdul Wahid told Antara on Monday (1 June 2026).

At the time of the fire, the government residence was unoccupied.

Residents nearby had just finished their activities when they heard shouts reporting the fire. Upon checking, the flames had already grown and engulfed the building.

Residents immediately contacted the Jakarta Fire Department Command Center (SCC Damkar) for assistance. In response, East Jakarta Sudin Gulkarmat deployed 11 fire engines and 55 personnel to the scene.

“The first unit arrived at 9:28 pm WIB and immediately began response. Firefighting began at 9:34 pm WIB,” Abdul said.

After the fire was controlled, officers proceeded with cooling operations from 9:52 pm WIB to ensure no remaining hotspots. Firefighting operations concluded at 10:15 pm WIB.

Despite causing material damage, there were no casualties or injuries. Firefighters rescued three families (nine people) from the vicinity to prevent further harm.

Abdul urged the public to remain vigilant about potential electrical installation faults that could spark fires, stressing the importance of regular checks on electrical networks and equipment to prevent recurrence.

“No casualties and firefighting operations are complete. The situation at the scene is now safe,” he added.
