East Jakarta Government Closes Railway Track Access to Prevent Brawls in Pondok Kopi

The East Jakarta City Government has closed off access to a damaged boundary fence along a railway line that had become a route for perpetrators of mass brawls. Pondok Kopi Urban Village Head Sandy Adamsyah stated on Friday that the closure is a temporary preventive measure while coordinating with PT Kereta Api Indonesia for permanent repairs. He noted that the damaged fence provided easy access for individuals entering the area to engage in brawls, including a recent incident on Jalan I Gusti Ngurah Rai involving residents from Pulogebang, Penggilingan, and Cakung sub-districts against residents from Bintara in Bekasi City. In addition to the closure, the urban village administration is establishing an integrated monitoring post at brawl-prone locations, involving government elements, security forces, community organisations, and local residents who will conduct surveillance in shifts. Sandy urged all community elements in Pondok Kopi to jointly maintain security and called for strengthened coordination with the Bekasi City Government, community leaders, and religious figures to identify root causes and develop sustainable prevention strategies. He expressed concern that Pondok Kopi is merely being used as an arena for brawls and hopes the situation does not influence local children and teenagers to participate. He emphasised that handling the issue requires cross-regional collaboration and hopes the closure of access along the railway line will serve as a swift measure to prevent future incidents, ensuring security and public order along the East Jakarta-Bekasi border.
