East Jakarta Food Security Agency Tightens Monitoring of Food Price Fluctuations
The East Jakarta Food Security, Marine and Agriculture Agency (KPKP) is tightening its monitoring of food price fluctuations to maintain supply stability and prevent price surges in the market.
“We are continuously monitoring so that increases in staple food prices in these markets do not last long,” said Head of the East Jakarta KPKP Agency Taufik Yulianto on Monday.
The measure is considered effective in curbing price volatility for a number of strategic commodities, despite supply pressures caused by weather and distribution issues.
Taufik noted that daily monitoring results show staple food price conditions in his area remain relatively under control compared to last month. Although there have been increases in some commodities, the movements are still within reasonable limits and have not significantly disrupted people’s purchasing power.
According to Taufik, chillies, shallots, and several types of vegetables have been the commodities experiencing the highest price fluctuations recently.
“Price increases are generally influenced by weather factors, distribution disruptions, and reduced production in central growing areas,” Taufik said.
Food price stability depends not only on supply conditions in Jakarta but is also influenced by various factors from producer regions. Weather conditions, planting seasons, logistics costs, and increased demand during major religious holidays are also key factors affecting prices at the consumer level.
Beyond domestic factors, national and global economic dynamics can also impact the prices of several food commodities. Therefore, the regional government continues to strengthen coordination with various parties to ensure the distribution chain runs smoothly and supplies remain available.
Price surveillance will continue to be carried out periodically as an anticipatory measure against potential market volatility. With intensive monitoring and cross-sector coordination, Taufik hopes that food price stability in East Jakarta can be maintained so that the community’s needs continue to be met at affordable prices.
