East Jakarta City Government evacuated 14 fallen and damaged trees resulting from heavy rain accompanied by strong winds that struck parts of Jakarta on Sunday (12/4) afternoon.

“Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds yesterday caused 14 trees to fall and become damaged in East Jakarta. Handling was carried out intensively by officers until the early hours,” said the Head of the Green Routes and Cemeteries Section of the East Jakarta Parks and City Forest Sub-District Office (Sudin Tamhut), Made Widhi Adnyana Surya Pratita, in Jakarta on Monday.

Made explained that extreme weather was the main trigger for the incident. Strong winds caused several trees, especially old ones with weak roots, to be unable to withstand and eventually fall.

“Some of them even hit residents’ buildings and vehicles,” Made said.

According to him, based on preliminary data, the fallen trees were spread across nine locations with various types and sizes.

Made detailed that a banyan tree with a diameter of 25 centimetres fell on Jalan H. Bokir Bin Jiun, Dukuh; a sengon tree with a diameter of 25 cm fell on Jalan Tanah Merdeka 7, Rambutan, which hit overhead cables; and a kersen tree with a diameter of 35 cm fell on Jalan Laksamana Malahayati, Cipinang Melayu.

In addition, four tabebuya trees and one bidara tree with diameters of 25-30 cm fell on Jalan Mabes TNI, Cilangkap. Then, on Jalan Raya Cilangkap-Cipayung, a banyan tree with a diameter of about 100 cm collapsed and hit three shophouses at once.

For the damaged category, he said, a Chinese petai tree under the New Flyover, Pulogebang, a teak and kersen tree on Jalan Gelanggang Remaja, Makasar, and a longan tree on Jalan Pinang Ranti 1.

Then, a damaged banyan tree in the TMII Employee Complex, Pondok Bambu, which hit six motorcycles.

Although it caused damage to property, Made assured that there were no fatalities or serious injuries in this incident. Data collection on material losses is still ongoing.

To speed up handling, Made said, they deployed 50 Green Force personnel to accelerate the evacuation process.

“They were assisted by PPSU officers, Satpol PP, and personnel from the East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-District Office (Gulkarmat). Handling was carried out until midnight. Today we continue the sweep because there are still some that have not been fully addressed,” Made said.

The East Jakarta City Government (Jaktim) has pruned more than 20,000 vulnerable trees since January to December 2025.

The details are 2,032 in January, 1,791 trees in February, 1,627 trees in March, 1,768 trees in April, 1,687 in May, 2,105 trees in June, 1,914 in July, 1,725 in August.
