East Jakarta Court Bans Visitors from Live Streaming Doctor Tifa's Trial
The East Jakarta District Court (PN Jaktim) has prohibited visitors from live-streaming the trial of Tifauzia Tyassuma, also known as Dr Tifa, regarding allegations of a forged diploma involving the 7th President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
The first hearing for the case is scheduled to take place at the East Jakarta District Court on Thursday (2/7) at approximately 09:00 WIB.
“Visitors seated in the gallery are not permitted to conduct live coverage,” said the spokesperson for the East Jakarta District Court, Immanuel, to journalists on Wednesday (1/7).
Meanwhile, Immanuel confirmed that members of the press are permitted to live-stream during certain parts of the trial. However, he noted that once the trial reaches the witness examination stage, the media will no longer be allowed to broadcast live.
“Throughout the trial stages, including the reading of the indictment, exceptions or challenges if any, up to the interlocutory judgment, as well as the reading of the prosecution’s demand, plea, and final verdict, the East Jakarta District Court has permitted the media to conduct live coverage,” he explained.
“However, during the evidentiary stage, the East Jakarta District Court has ruled that live streaming is not permitted because, by law, witness testimonies must be heard in isolation from one another,” he added.
Furthermore, Immanuel mentioned that the court will implement screening from early morning tomorrow. This measure is being taken due to capacity constraints, ensuring that only relevant parties are permitted entry.
“Since screening will begin in the morning, only those with a direct interest in tomorrow’s proceedings in East Jakarta will be allowed in,” he said.
Previously, the East Jakarta District Court appointed a panel of judges to handle the special criminal case, numbered 301/Pid.Sus/2026/PN Jkt Tim, under the name of the defendant, Dr Tifa.
“The Chief of the East Jakarta District Court has appointed the panel of judges to handle this case. Based on that determination, the presiding judge for the trial will be Christina Endarwati,” said the spokesperson, Immanuel Tarigan, at the East Jakarta District Court on Friday (26/6).
The panel of judges for Dr Tifa’s trial will also include members Rudi Rafli Siregar and Mathilda Chrystina Katarina.
Additionally, to support the smooth administration of the trial, the East Jakarta District Court has appointed two substitute clerks, Joyo Supriyanto and Zuliana Maro.
Immanuel stated that the selection of the judicial panel was based on considerations of competence, integrity, and the experience of the judges involved.
“The appointment of the judicial panel handling this case is the authority of the Chief Judge. Naturally, the Chief Judge has considered the capabilities of this panel,” he concluded.
