East Jakarta City Government Strengthens Youth Character at the 118th National Awakening Day (Harkitnas)
East Jakarta City Government continues to strengthen the character and nationalism of the younger generation in commemorating the 118th National Awakening Day (Harkitnas).
‘The younger generation plays an important role in determining the future of the nation. Therefore, all elements of society are asked to help nurture and develop the next generation so that they possess a strong character, a spirit of nationalism, and the ability to face global challenges,’ said East Jakarta Deputy Mayor Kusmanto at East Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday.
Kusmanto said National Awakening Day is not merely an annual ceremony, but a momentum to rekindle the spirit of unity and concern for the nation’s future.
According to him, nation-building is not only determined by progress in infrastructure and the economy, but also by the quality of human resources who possess integrity and a love of country.
‘National awakening is not only part of history, but also a dream that must be realised in daily life, including in education, economic development, and the strengthening of national character,’ Kusmanto explained.
Kusmanto noted that today’s youth face challenges different from those of the independence struggle era.
Moreover, the currents of globalisation, technological developments, and the flood of information on social media pose their own challenges that must be faced with prudent attitude and a spirit of unity.
Therefore, he invites students and the youth in East Jakarta to continue instilling national values, maintaining tolerance, and strengthening social solidarity amid the capital city’s diverse community.
According to him, the spirit of national awakening must be realised through tangible actions, such as improving the quality of education, maintaining unity, and actively contributing to the development of the surrounding environment.
‘Through this ceremony, we are invited to emulate the spirit of the nation’s founders and commit to building a more advanced, just and civilised Indonesia,’ Kusmanto said.
The ceremony, which carried the theme ‘Guard the Sprouts of the Nation for the Sovereignty of the State’, was attended by all Civil Servants (ASN) within the East Jakarta City Government as well as the Jakarta Timur leadership Forum for Coordinating Leaders (Forkopimko).
The ceremony proceeded solemnly with hundreds of participants from various ASN elements and the Jakarta Timur Forkopimko.
This year’s National Awakening Day is expected to serve as an important reminder of the need to maintain the spirit of unity and nationalism to realise a strong and sovereign Indonesia.
