Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Setu sub-district has restricted heavy vehicles from crossing the Setu bridge, specifically on Jalan Kampung Kramat in the Setu sub-district, Cipayung, East Jakarta, which has cracked and partially collapsed.

“Heavy vehicles are no longer allowed to pass to ensure safety, while waiting for the bridge to be repaired so that there is no further damage,” said the Head of Setu sub-district, Dwi Widiastuti, in Jakarta, Thursday.

This restriction is a quick step taken by the Setu sub-district to prevent the damage from worsening.

The authorities have also reported the damage through a meeting at the sub-district level and sent a letter to the relevant agencies.

“For the initial handling, we have reported to the leadership through a meeting at the sub-district level. We have also sent a letter to the sub-district, the Bina Marga Department, and plan to send it to the PUPR,” explained Dwi.

According to her, the bridge is under the authority of the Ministry of Public Works and Spatial Planning (PUPR) because it serves as a border between the Special Capital Region of Jakarta (DKI Jakarta) and West Java (Bekasi).

Therefore, structural repairs are awaiting follow-up from the agency. As a temporary safety measure, the sub-district will install banners prohibiting large vehicles from crossing.

Currently, the bridge can only be used by two-wheeled vehicles. Meanwhile, four-wheeled vehicles and large vehicles are directed to use alternative routes.

According to Dwi, the condition of the bridge continues to deteriorate, and the cracks are widening. If not addressed immediately, she fears the damage will worsen and endanger road users.

Dwi appealed to the public to comply with the restrictions for the safety of all, while waiting for the repair process from the authorities.

The damage to the bridge connecting the provinces in Kampung Kramat, Setu sub-district, Cipayung district, East Jakarta, which has cracked and partially collapsed, is suspected to be due to the age of the structure and erosion of water on the underside of the bridge structure.
