East Jakarta City Government Reminds Residents to Check Electrical Wiring and Cookers Before Travelling Home
Electrical wiring must be carefully checked before being left unattended. Ensure everything is in safe condition.
Jakarta (ANTARA) – The East Jakarta City Government has reminded residents to ensure electrical wiring and cookers are in safe condition before departing on Eid holiday travel to their home towns.
“Electrical wiring must be thoroughly checked before being left unattended. Make sure everything is in safe condition. Cookers must also be inspected and ensured to be switched off to prevent fire hazards,” said East Jakarta City Mayor Munjirin at the East Jakarta City Mayor’s Office on Thursday.
According to Munjirin, negligence in turning off electrical appliances and cookers is often a cause of house fires when residents are away for extended periods.
Therefore, he emphasised the importance of residents conducting a comprehensive inspection of electrical installations and kitchen equipment before leaving their homes.
“Residents planning to travel for Eid are urged to be more vigilant against potential fire hazards in homes left unattended,” he said.
Munjirin acknowledged that this advisory has been conveyed to the public on several occasions, including during nightly prayers activities conducted by East Jakarta City Government officials throughout Ramadhan.
Munjirin also suggested that residents entrust their house keys to trusted neighbours or relatives, so that the condition of the house can be monitored whilst they are away on holiday travel.
“If keys are entrusted to trusted neighbours or relatives, should anything happen to the house it can be immediately discovered and handled,” he said.
Beyond home security, he also reminded the public using private vehicles to ensure their vehicles are in prime condition before undertaking long-distance travel.
Meanwhile, for residents without yard space to store vehicles not taken on holiday travel, the East Jakarta City Government has instructed village and district officials to help provide parking facilities.
The vehicle storage programme at government offices is pursuant to an oral instruction from DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo to village heads and district leaders.
“If residents want to store their vehicles because they do not have adequate parking space at home, we permit them to be stored at village or district offices and we will assist with security,” Munjirin explained.
Through these various advisories, the East Jakarta City Government hopes residents can undertake their Eid holiday travel safely and comfortably, without worry about fire hazards or the security of homes left unattended.
